Thomas Bewick School Host Newcastle City Council SEND Celebration Event
Return to Latest NewsOn 14th June, Thomas Bewick School welcomed colleagues from mainstream schools across Newcastle City Council into the specialist school to share information about the school’s philosophy, curriculum and provision for learners with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).
Thomas Bewick School pupils brilliantly showcased their school with a choir performance, a dance routine and a presentation by the Thomas Bewick School Council. Visitors also heard about the academic and therapeutic curriculum and watched a sensory Rebound session take pace.
Ciara Tibbitts, a Specialist Nursery Nurse from the SEND Outreach Service, was one visitor and said:
“On behalf of the staff that attended from SEND Outreach Service Early Years Team, we absolutely loved the performances by the children! It was lovely to meet the school council members and how proud they were of their work especially their fundraising initiatives and what they wanted to spend the money on. It was useful for us to see the Rebound session and hear how this is used to support different children’s needs.
It was useful to have SENDCOs and SLT from mainstream schools there to see and hear how you do things as a specialist provision, and that you are still subject to the same budget and staffing limitations that mainstream settings face. Seeing how you structure your curriculum gave us an insight that we can discuss with staff in the schools we visit.”
