Prosper Learning Trust are pleased to announce the appointment of Leanne Southern to the position of Assistant Headteacher at Harry Watts Academy. Leanne joined the team at the start of the Summer Term.

Leanne brings a wealth of experience having taught in both specialist and mainstream schools over the past 17 years. For the last 10 years, Leanne was employed at a specialist primary school in Washington as a Senior Leader and SENDCo.

When asked about her appointment, Leanne said:

"I'm so excited to be joining Harry Watts Academy as Assistant Headteacher. I really want to get to know each and every one of the pupils both at Redhouse and Harraton. Harry Watts Academy has a special kind of buzz and that's down to the incredible staff and pupils and I can't wait to be part of it. I look forward to continuing my journey at Harry Watts Academy."

Leanne's interest in Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) started as a university student where she based her dissertation around the language and communication barriers faced by ASC learners. Leanne added "My determination to provide children with SEND the very best provision and education grew, and I quickly became a SENDCo."

Louise Hindmarch, Headteacher of Harry Watts Academy, said: "I am thrilled that Leanne is joining the Harry Watts team. Leanne is well known across the city as an excellent practitioner and we are delighted that she will be joining our leadership team, to further support the strategic development of our school."
