Careers Week at Harry Watts Academy
Return to Latest News
The pupils at the Redhouse site enjoyed taking part in Careers Week, which was an exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of jobs and try out hands on experiences linked to the world of work. Tiger Class learnt about people who help them in the community, looking closely at the roles of doctors, nurses, restaurant workers and shopkeepers. They loved engaging in role play, taking turns being doctors and nurses caring for patients, as well as workers and customers in a shop or restaurant.
Blue Class and Red Class both spent time discovering what life is like for a farmer. Blue Class explored how farmers care for animals, grow food and drive farm vehicles, while Red Class enjoyed milking cows, helping sheep cross the road and giving the tractor a good wash. Orange Class also had great fun with farming activities, trying their hand at shearing sheep, milking a cow and cleaning dirty animals, helping them understand the everyday responsibilities involved in looking after a farm.
Yellow Class explored what it might be like to work in an aquarium. They linked this to their Maths money skills and their Water World topic, practising handling money, learning about sea life and imagining how aquarium workers care for marine animals. Cheetah Class focused on healthcare careers, learning about the roles of doctors and dentists. They discussed the differences between the two jobs and then role played the one they would most like to do when they are older. Purple Class explored the work of builders and chefs, learning about how buildings are constructed and how meals are prepared, while taking part in activities that allowed them to experience both jobs. Jaguar Class learnt what it takes to be a firefighter, exploring the equipment they use, the importance of fire safety and imagining themselves bravely helping others in emergencies.
Careers Week was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, imagination and ambition across the school. The pupils were enthusiastic, engaged and eager to learn about the many exciting jobs they might choose in the future.
